Context

Hello! My name is Odalis Ocampo, and I am an advanced Computer Systems Engineering student at Universidad Fidélitas in Costa Rica.

I joined the WPCredits project because I want to expand my technical knowledge beyond software development. Although I have experience with programming and web technologies, I had never worked extensively with WordPress. I see this project as an excellent opportunity to learn one of the most widely used content management systems in the world while contributing to an open-source community.

My goal is to understand how WordPress works, learn about its tools and contribution process, and develop skills that I can apply in future academic and professional projects.

Procedure

To begin my journey, I completed the following steps:

• Created my WordPress.com account.
• Set up my personal portfolio website.
• Customized the basic layout and navigation menu.
• Created the About Me, WPCredits Project, Blog, and Contact pages.
• Wrote my professional biography and my project summary.
• Explored the WordPress dashboard and became familiar with the Block Editor.

Challenges

Since this was my first time using the WordPress Site Editor, I initially found it confusing to understand the difference between editing pages, templates, and navigation menus.

I also spent time learning how blocks work and how to organize the website so that it looked clean and easy to navigate.

What I Learned

This first experience helped me understand the basic structure of a WordPress website and how pages, menus, and blocks work together.

I also realized that WordPress is much more flexible than I expected, offering many customization options without requiring advanced programming knowledge.

Reflection

I am excited to begin this learning journey. Even though I know there is still a lot to learn, I feel motivated to continue exploring WordPress and eventually contribute to the community.

As a future software developer, I believe these skills will complement my programming background and help me create better web solutions. My next step is to become familiar with the contribution process and continue documenting my progress throughout the WPCredits project.
